What is The Christian Independent Alliance?

The CIAlliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to Christian musicians, singers, bands, songwriters and others, who are impacting people with their music and message worldwide. We believe as the Christian music industry changes, more and more Christian musicians will remain independent, accomplishing their missions without the existing music industry. We believe the time is right to provide an organization whose purpose is to provide resources independents need to fulfill their unique callings.

Who is The Christian Independent Alliance?

The CIAlliance was created by the founder of Indieheaven.com. Indieheaven’s president, Keith Mohr has provided services to independent Christian artists since 1997. Online nonstop since January 2002, Indieheaven is the leading Christian independent musician resource and community on the world wide web. With over 700 supporting members, Indieheaven provides world class tools, plus distribution of music through CD’s and digital downloads. Indieheaven also provides a dynamic artist community via The Indieheaven Network.

Who is eligible for Membership to the CIAlliance?

The CIAlliance is for musicians, singers, songwriters, and bands who profess faith in Jesus Christ and who make sharing the Gospel message the purpose for their missions. See our Statement of Faith to learn about our beliefs. If you share your music and message in churches, prisons, nursing homes, festivals, coffeehouses, even clubs and are concerned with the spiritual state of your audience, we welcome you.

Does someone need to be “Independent” to join the CIAlliance?

Members cannot be signed to a recording contract by a major record label, or a subsidiary of Warner, EMI, Universal, or Sony/BMG. There are many independent record labels who work with artists in varied and creative relationships. Many independent artists create their own “vanity” record labels to create validity to their music.

Can non-musicians join the CIAlliance?

No, the CIAlliance is for music artists, musicians, bands, singers, and songwriters. There are other organizations for other art forms.

What are the Benefits of Membership to the CIAlliance?
Support, Fund Raising, Tax Deductible Receipts for Donors

Isaiah 6:8 states, “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

This foundational scripture of The Christian Independent Alliance is our mission. Now, more than ever, Christian Independent artists need believers to send them in their music minisitries. The CIAlliance provides a non-profit umbrella to receive donations by its members and issue tax deductible receipts to their donors. The CIAlliance will account for funds received through donations made from the CIAlliance website, their member profile on Indieheaven.com, their personal website, or at their events. The CIAlliance will disburse 90% of the funds raised by its members to them on an “as needed” basis. 10% will go into a general fund to cover the expense of receiving and accounting for donations, pay for materials for members, and for scholarship and grants. Monies raised by each member will be kept in escrow, to be made available to them at any time. Support raised by a member will only be available to that member, and not mixed in with other members funds. Receipts for ministry related expenses will be required from a member to receive disbursement of funds.

Conferences and Events

The CIAlliance produces the CIA Summit, a conference for Christian independent musicians, singers, songwriters and bands. The CIA Summit celebrated its 5th year in March 2008, and was held near Nashville, TN. CIAlliance members will receive a substantial discount (50% of the non-member price) on conference registration. The next CIA Summit will take place in late March 2009. For more information, visit our Events Page.

Scholarships and Grants

The CIAlliance Scholarship program will award several grants to its members in 2008. The CIAlliance has relationships with music producers and service providers in the Nashville, TN area. Members will raise support for their music recording project through the CIAlliance, and the CIAlliance will provide matching funds through executive production services. Artists selected for a scholarship will be determined via an extensive evaluation of their music and mission. Production budgets will be determined on a case by case basis depending on the commitment level of the artist, the scope of their missions and the complexity of their recording process.
